One last tribute to Elena Baltacha

Elena Baltacha, former British No1, has died from liver cancer at the age of 30. Tributes for Baltacha flooded in on Monday, the former top-50 player described as "one of the shining lights of British women's tennis of recent generations". 

The Lawn Tennis Association released a statement, saying: "Today British Tennis mourns the loss of one of our own. The news of the death of Elena Baltacha, one of the shining lights of Brithis women's tennis of recent generations, is devastating to everyone who has ever had the privilege to know her, play against her, or call her a friend or team-mate. 

Elena Baltacha was born in Kiev after which she quikly moved to Great Britain where her father played football as a professional at Ipswich Town. Elena became professional in 1997 and reached with her Yonex rackets a top ranking of 49 in 2010.

Elena Baltacha was also active during the olympics of 2012 in London. One year later she waved professional tennis goodbye because of a persistent knee injury. Elena married her coach Nino Severino in December 2013 just before she was being diagnosed with cancer in January 2014.

Through various social media people have shown their condolences to the address of Elena Baltacha showing the impact of her loss to the rest of the world. Former top tennis player Martina Navratilova tweeted: "So sad to hear of Elena Baltacha's passing- my thoughts are with her family and loved ones, gone much much too soon..."

Former american No1 of the world Lindsay Davenport said: ""Just awful. Elena Baltacha has passed away from liver cancer. She was 30."

Ana Ivanovic, current top tennis player wrote: "So sad to hear about Elena. Tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with family... #RIPBally
