To be honest before I started working for TennisPlanet, I’d never even heard of Tyger. (Apart from Tony, the one who advertises frosties)
When I was new to my job I kept thinking (which in my case can be dangerous) “who would buy this stuff? Surely the professional gear must be much better”.The answer came to me when I flew the flag for the UK in the annual TennisPlanet country managers tournament held each year in Belgium. Crowds of up to 16 people have been known to watch and the tournament winner gets a silver trophy in the shape of a Belgium waffle and doesn’t have to buy a round of drinks in the post Tournament celebration in the bar.
I was drawn in the first round against 7 times winner Bart Vaessen from Holland. The Dutchman stood at over 4ms tall and has a serve that had been measured at nearly 675 km per hour. As you can imagine I was nervous but as soon as I picked up the trusty Tyger Exel Drive C50 (link) I new there was only going to be one winner. After a close tussle my l triumphed 6-5, 4-6,6-4,4-6,77-74 in a game that lasted close on 55 minutes. Exhausted but happy I could prepare for round 2, where I would play Spartacus Donnerkebabopolous from Greece.
Since then I have been easy to spot at my local club, the one who is a walking advert, constantly preaching the way of the Tyger brand to all my friends and fellow tennis enthusiasts.
I now also know Tyger don’t just make their own rackets, but a huge range of products:
I recently found out why TYGER is such value for money. It’s because TYGER does not sponsor any tennis stars like Roger or Rafa. Every Wilson ball, every Babolat racket or every Head bag you buy is like putting money in their pocket. Lovely guys, for sure, but they have to get paid.
So if you are the person at the club who cares about what your equipment does rather than if it has a name on it it-then Tyger is worth putting in your thoughts. Same quality=better value and with the world the way it is getting value for money can only be a good move.
